Motivation Tips: Be The Best You Can Be!
Motivation is what causes you to move forward every day. This can be for any reason whether it be pursuing your career dreams or the love of your life. For one reason or another, you feel compelled to go after certain things. Every morning, you have (or need more of) the motivation to get up and go to work. However, we have all days where we felt less so. Sometimes life can overwhelm you and cause you to focus on your problems instead of the bigger picture. However, motivation can stem from things as basic as optimizing your well being, minimizing pain and satisfying physical needs such as eating and sleeping. If you have bills to pay, you probably have to work. If you have weight to lose, you need motivation to eat healthier foods and become more active. So, if you are struggling with the necessary desire, here are some motivation tips to get you back on track.
Having something to strive for can be motivating in and of itself. Write down some of your goals. The most important thing is to keep them realistic. For example, I have written down a goal to win the lottery one day. Now, many of us might have that goal, but given the odds, it probably is not very realistic. So, say you want to pay off some student loans, well, you can set a goal to make more than your monthly minimum payment. Perhaps you want to visit Europe? You can set a goal to save a certain amount each month until you reach your goal. The fun part is once you cross off a goal; you get even more motivated to tackle the others.
Commit Your Goals Publicly
I know this does not sound like the best idea. What if you fail? How will you be viewed? Well, you cannot worry about that. That is what makes this tip motivating. No one likes to look bad in front of others, right? If you do something you have said publicly, you will probably be willing to go the extra mile. Maybe you bet a group of friends that you would lose 20 lbs. in three months. Are you going to let them win that bet? You will probably have an even greater desire to win because you have your health, you have your pride, and there is even some financial gain involved.
I haven’t always shared my goals with others, but when I did, I usually made sure to achieve them. I thought, “what would they say if it seemed like I was just spouting hot air instead of action?” Before I got my first job out of college, I told my dad where I wanted to work and why. He helped me with advice, but I took his advice and pushed it one step further. I got the job and my dad saw that I was committed to achieving that particular goal of mine.
Get Out of Your Comfort Zone
There is the saying that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. If you wanted to make new friends, would you be able to do so if you only frequent the same locations you have been frequenting for the past few years? If you want to make a career change, would it make sense to learn some new things? Getting out of our comfort zones can be a scary proposition.
For me, I’ve lived in several different states and cities. Each move was scary at first and came with their own set of unique difficulties. However, looking back, I would not change a thing. Why? Because I learned so much in the process, and I made lifelong friends as a result. I’m not suggesting everyone do the same thing, but for me, it has opened many doors that might have been closed to me otherwise. Why not think outside the box, what’s stopping you? Visualization should be very detailed. You need to close your eyes and imagine situations going the way you want. You have to smell any associated scents and even experience touch, as much as possible using your imagination. In addition, you have to do this frequently and daily. Pretty soon, your goals might come to you even more easily than you thought. And, it will help with your motivation.
I remember when I was applying to different colleges. There was one that stood out to me and my family. When we went to visit the campus, I could just imagine myself there. It seemed to fit perfectly. When I talked to one of the admission’s officers, we conversed as if we had known each other for years. It was a very positive visit. Afterwards, even if I had not yet received an acceptance letter, there was just no other option for me. I told my family that was where I was going and nowhere else. I pictured myself moving there. As it turns out, I received my acceptance letter not too long after.
Do Not Fear Making Mistakes
Perfectionism is something that can lead to an fulfilling life. You shy away from taking part in activities if you do not feel confident you will succeed. However, you have surely read employment ads. To get hired, most places want someone with experience in that particular field. You cannot get experience without trying something first. In addition, you will not be perfect at everything. However, you can easily learn how to achieve super motivation and happiness that will benefit all areas of your life.
In fact, you will initially fail at many things. So what? If we were all perfect, the world would be quite boring, wouldn’t it? Everyone makes mistakes; that is a part of life. You cannot be afraid of mistakes. Making mistakes gives you wisdom that you can pull from later in life. You also never know if you might find something that gives you more joy than you ever imagined. In addition, you can get started with these six daily motivation habits.
Focus on Your Successes
Make a conscious choice to be happy. Sure, you can find lots of things that cause unhappiness. If you compare yourself to others, you will never be happy. There will always be someone brighter, better looking, richer, thinner and maybe even more popular. You cannot be all things to all people. However, you can focus on the positive. Think of what you have instead of what you don’t have. Do you have a roof over your head? Do you have food in the refrigerator? Do you have a pet you adore? Family? Friends? Do you have clothing in your closet and shoes to wear? These may seem like basics to some, but to others, they are considered riches. I like to think of a quote by Charles Dubois, “We must be prepared, at any moment, to sacrifice who we are for who we are capable of becoming.” Once you start applying these motivation tips, you will realize they aren’t so difficult, after all.
