Today’s ever-changing economic climate demands organizations to embrace agility and requires workers to be willing to make changes. And strong leadership is a crucial component of communicating these changes in the workplace. In response to the digital transformation of the workforce, DDI’s Global Leadership Forecast 2021 highlighted “leading change” as one of the must-have skills for today’s leaders, alongside leading virtual teams, empathy/emotional intelligence, and digital acumen.

Developing change agility — both for leaders themselves and their organizations at large — involves a process of honing self-awareness and decision-making in ambiguous situations. This tactic is one way strong leaders handle disruption and ensure business continuity. Patience is also key. According to David Sluss for Harvard Business Review, effective leadership behaviors are enhanced by a show of patience.

He’s written two best-selling books on leadership and change and previously taught at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.
