Success Story: Thomas Leuthard ist erfolgreichster deutschsprachiger Dozent

Bei Udemy kann jeder sein eigenes Wissen an andere Menschen weiter vermitteln. Unsere Dozenten bereichern mit ihren Fähigkeiten sowie vielfältigen Werdegängen und Erfahrungen das Angebot an Online-Kursen. In Erfolgsgeschichten beleuchten wir jeweils einen unserer Dozenten etwas genauer und zeigen, welchen Weg dieser bei uns gegangen ist.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAZum Zeitvertreib blätterte der Schweizer Thomas Leuthard in einem Hotelzimmer in Tel Aviv durch einen Prospekt mit Spiegelreflexkameras. Aus reiner Neugierde erwarb er eine und entdeckte so seine Leidenschaft für die Fotografie. Seit fünf Jahren bereist er nun die großen Städte dieser Welt und dokumentiert das Leben auf den Straßen. Sein Ziel: mit Fotografien das Besondere eines ganz alltäglichen Augenblicks einzufangen.

Das Wissen, das sich Thomas über die letzten Jahre selbst angeeignet hat, möchte er an andere interessierte Fotografen weitergeben, denn „schließlich ist Wissen nur dann wirkungsvoll, wenn man es auch weitergibt“. So ist er bereits Verfasser mehrerer E-Books und gibt Workshops zum Thema Street-Fotografie. Sein erfolgreichstes E-Book, das innerhalb nur eines Jahres mehr als 100.000 Mal heruntergeladen wurde, bezeichnet Thomas selbst als den Beginn seines Erfolgs als Street-Fotograf.

Im Juli 2014 entdeckte er dann Udemy, als eine weitere Möglichkeit, sein Wissen auch an Menschen weiterzugeben, die nicht vor Ort an seinen Workshops teilnehmen können. Da er selbst viel unterwegs ist, begeisterte ihn insbesondere die örtliche Unabhängigkeit der Online-Kurse: „Jeder Student kann zu der Zeit lernen, zu der er möchte und sich die Video-Kurse auf seinem Tablet sogar offline ansehen“.

Aus Dozentensicht sprach ihn speziell die finanzielle Autonomie an: „Ich mag besonders, dass man 97% der Einnahmen der Teilnehmer bekommt, die man selbst auf die Plattform gebracht hat. Da ich viele Follower habe, war dies ein wichtiger Aspekt für mich“.

Und so erstellte er kurzerhand seinen ersten Udemy-Kurs zu Street Fotografie – ohne viel Equipment. Thomas suchte lediglich einen Baumarkt auf und kaufte zwei Baustrahler, um das Videobild besser auszuleuchten. Denn eine hohe Audio- und Videoqualität machen einen guten Kurs in seinen Augen wertvoller.
