How To Teach Anyone Anywhere Anytime

I love to teach. And I wanted to share some of the ways that I’ve been able to teach students outside of the confines of traditional educational institutions

Local Groups

As a photographer, I am a member of a local camera club, called New Jersey Smug. The group meets once a month and someone provides a presentation about a photography topic. The group also has regular meetups (or photowalks) somewhere in the surrounding states. Both the presentations and photowalks are opportunities to teach other photographers about the craft.

Why? Seeing responses and in-person engagement

Google Plus Hangouts

In addition to being a freelance photographer, I am also the Community & Blog Wrangler at Photocrati, who develops an amazing WordPress Gallery Theme, WordPress Gallery Plugin and is the company behind a community for educating about Photography SEO.

Having the ability to blog and educate so many photographers on such a wide range of topics, on a daily basis, I discovered another way to go about it. Every so often, I host a Google Plus Hangout (through an event) and provide 1-on-1 discussions, Q&A sessions and presentations.

Why? Video conference engagement

Photography eBooks are extremely popular and there are thousands of them available for anyone interested in learning photography. I decided to do a similar thing to what I’m doing in this article, but in an eBook. I wrote and published Absorbing Light, an eBook created to teach photographers on the many ways to learn photography.

With Udemy, comes a new way to learn about the art of photography. There are classes like the one from my friend David Nightingale on Black & White Photography or by my friend Don Giannatti on Portrait Photography.

When I was approached by Udemy to create photography courses, I was very interested in the opportunity. Until then, I worked with the team at Photocrati to release a course on SEO for Photographers, called Remember the Basics.

Why? To provide any photographer with enough knowledge on SEO basics to get them started towards better rankings.

To get started on Udemy, I recommend taking a presentation or class that you have given to other students (offline), and transform it into an engaging video series.  Be creative and have fun with it.  I believe in not being too serious in the videos.  Smile, be friendly and teach your heart off.

Teaching Outside the Confines of  Traditional Educational Institutions.

As you have read, there are so many ways to teach. I have utilized each above. I believe Udemy is another avenue to utilize and can’t wait to see what else I can teach Udemy students about.
