Analyzing Your Dreams in 4 steps
Now, let’s begin with the interpretation. There are four steps that you can take when analyzing your dreams. They are: developing an accurate picture, remembering images and events, interpretation, and perfecting your interpretation abilities.
Developing an Accurate Picture
Remember: First things first, you are going to have to actually remember what you dreamt about. This can be a problem for some, because I know that I do not always remember details of my dream even though I know I had a dream. Here are some ways that you can remember your dreams:
- Keep a dream journal
- Right down your initial thoughts, feelings, and insights once you wake up – even if they make absolutely no sense to you.
Do not connect: With the information that you have when you wake up, you might want to create connections and assumptions, but refrain from doing this for now. You could end up misinterpreting by mistake.
Avoid interpretation aids: Dream dictionaries and interpretation books might seem interesting, but you should rely on your own interpretation and senses first before consulting any outside source material. You will be the only one to read and interpret your personal circumstances best.
Remembering Images and Events
- Do I recognize any of these things from my daily life?
- Are there familiar faces?
- Have I ever experienced any of these things before?
Real life situations: As you go through your dream, determine if any of the instances you come across reflect real-life situations. For example, if you had a dream about an argument with your best friend, and you had a fight with them a few days ago, then you would understand why you dreamt what you did.
Find meaning: With the information that you have, go ahead and decide what the dream means to you. If it reflects something from your daily life, then it may be an issue that is bothering or affecting your subconscious mind. Also keep in mind that:
